Flip phones were ultra hot at the end of the 90′s and early 2000′s. As long as you weren’t a stuffy “business” person who owned a Blackberry or Palm, you probably had a flip phone. Then, Apple’s iPhone came and changed the world of cell phones completely.
Smart phones took over and the flip phone died.
It’s back. Kind of.

It’s made by “Kristian Ulrich Larsen” whose currently at a design school. It’s not to market yet by any company but you can bet these will be in some form soon.

Another fine example of overdesign and/or design-because-of-design; why the curved panels? Why three of them arranged in a triangular configuration? For no practical reason(s) at all. Creative? Maybe. Practical? Nope.

Innovative, creative, functional, different. All in one package. Product is both functional and beautiful in design (hardly attainable today) and I really hope you guys will find a way to produce and market this (or similar) device soon.

The iphone does not beat this design. I’m sure y’all are all arguing over the OS of the machine, but that would be easy to configure like apple. The thing this has that the iphone doesn’t is the physical keyboard. i’m sorry, but any smartphone that doesn’t have a physical keyboard is not worth buying. i’m so tired of touch-screen-only devices. this is an amazing design, I think LG or sony could do wonders with this design.

They are currently a concept design only. The company that decides to make this a reality though will do very well.

First off, this is a great video, interesting concept, and amazingly well though out. But, all yall know this is a concept phone right? and that it does not exist, similar phones will not exist for a while, and that all this is an advertisement for a school? The technology shown in this video is years away, and the mechanical design is impractical. Ever try typing or scrolling on a curved surface? Not pleasant. Furthermore, the speed that it is proposing does not exist on any phone or network. Lastly, it would be insanely expensive, fragile, and short lived. The cost of touch phones are falling, that is for sure, but they are still expensive. Putting two touch screens on a phone, even an android would make it twice as expensive as the iPhone, not to mention that the software for this phone would have be completely built from the ground up in order to allow multiple screen customization and use. It would essentially be like running multiple desktops with multiple keyboards and mouses, the commands would be easily confused and interchangeable. These two things alone would pull the battery life down and cause this phone to be terribly short lived. On top of that two touch screens means this phone is twice as opportunistic to break. All of these things mean that this phone is not close to production, or even close to a working prototype. Like i said before it is an awesome idea, and if it was a good working phone i would be interested, but most of you are missing the point of this video. it is to express creativity not reality. Therefore i dub this the communicator mark III which will make an appearance in the next Star Trek Tv series.

As I am retired in the Architectural field I find this is more designed with form in mind. I feel that this would be more comfortable to handle and use. I would be interested in this smartphone if this was on the market today.

Wow…they should make a whole another company for this. That way it would be more practical. The company could be more developed and faster and have a better touch screen than any other company.
Why would someone want a phone that it not just big, it requires to flip it and make it twice big? It may look pretty cool and all but the phone should be something practical and this is definitely not the definition of that. I have played before with the other Android phone that first came with a split screen and that phone was even smaller than this own and boy it was not practical at all. They should start thinking in making things more portable and handy instead of trying to create a 4.3″ laptops in your pocket.

It’s realy amazing designe , the first time I’ve seen it ,I wondered why mobile phone compannies don’t make such designes……..
The future of mobile. I like that they are able to sync with each other. What we need is phone with a projector, and yes I know there is the Pico, but I need high resolution. Also the projected image should be interactive. Whoever successfully makes that will have some money in their pocket.

There has to be a line between functionality and practicality. Is it a mini tablet or a really big cellphone? I predict that it won’t do too well in the smartphone market.
